[ It should be noted that I absolutely loathe YouTube posts on blogs. There are far too many blogs out there that are nothing but YouTube videos and I think that really sucks. That said, I've recently come across a few interesting YouTube videos so I figured if I was going to post them it'd be better to do it in one large uber-post and just be done with it. ]
A live-action Patlabor movie certainly wouldn't be a big surprise, given that the director of the first two Patlabor films, Mamoru Oshii, has dabbled in live-action work before. But if this demo trailer is any indication, it's probably a good thing the project never got off the ground. The copyright says 1998 so it's no surprise the CG is lacking, but the hideous AV-98 Ingram-inspired labor certainly doesn't help.
I originally found this video courtesy of Matt Alt's recent post on his blog, AltJapan. A short live-action promotional video produced alongside the dismal 80's Appleseed OVA, it looks like it was just an excuse for the production team to play with blanks.
My old Macintosh Performa came with a free copy of a rubbish point-and-click adventure game named The Journeyman Project. The only worthwhile part of the game was a short demo video for another similar point-and-click game called Gundam: The War for Earth. Oddly enough the video used footage from the original Gundam series, opposed to the awful CD and live-action actors employed for the actual game.
I spent a particularly awkward Saturday evening back in my youth watching the Hong Kong live-action version of Wicked City with my Dad. I was young and had just started getting into anime, but I have no recollection of my motives for picking up a dumb Hong Kong adaption of an already questionable late-80's OVA. Mostly what I remember are boobs, and how awkward it was to watch movies with boobs in them with your father when you're 12 years old.
